Fund seeks to help those struggling on fi xed incomes

The Leisure World Cares Fund introduced itself to the community late last year. Since then, based on the number of donors who have come forward, there has been a lot of support expressed for its mission to help provide housing security to Leisure World’s most vulnerable residents.

However, there has been a slow-down in the number of applicants coming forward to apply for the available aid. The need certainly exists.

Possibly shame may be contributing to the reticence to apply. But every application is kept confidential, and all supporting documentation is returned to the applicant after review. The applications are reviewed only by a small team who are practiced in preserving the dignity of applicants.

Qualified applicants are awarded up to $200 per month for a period of 12 months, which will be renewable after an annual review.

Awardees to date have expressed a sense of relief upon being quickly approved and having a bit more cushion between their fixed incomes and their expanding expenses.

Help filling out the application is available for the asking. Application forms will be dropped off and donations will be picked up if that is more convenient.
