Lapidary & Jewelry Club

The Lapidary & Jewelry Club is offering two upcoming classes. Sign-up forms for each class are available in the Lapidary & Jewelry Studio located in Clubhouse 4. Both classes are open to Leisure World residents only.

Metalsmithing basics class

The club is offering a metalsmithing basics class starting April 15. The class will run for eight weeks on Wednesdays from 9 a.m.noon. The classes start with copper and transition to silver. Students will learn techniques for cutting, shaping, filing and soldering the different metals to make jewelry.

Instructor LaVerne Christenson has many years of experience working with metals. The one-time cost for the class is $35, which includes the use of tools and materials, excluding silver.

Dichroic fused glass jewelry class

The club is offering its popular dichroic fused glass jewelry class on Thursday, April 16, from 12:30-3 p.m. The class is held in the Lapidary Studio in Clubhouse 4. Students will create their own one of a kind pieces. The class, led by instructor Yevette Louie, will cover the basics for new students and give experienced students the opportunity to expand their skills.

Materials are provided and include everything students need to make two pendants. The cost for the class is $15 for club members and $20 for non-club members. Class size is limited to six students.
