Letters to the Editor

Editor:

As a shareholder, I am writing to express my frustration regarding the ongoing discussions about the access gate system.

Many of the questions asked at the March 24 GRF Board of Directors meeting have been answered at committee meetings and in other presentations since spring 2025, when the gate system was first unveiled and thoroughly explained.

The specific number of users is irrelevant to the core issue of ensuring equal access for all shareholders and staff.

It's a security issue for all shareholders and employees. This matter has been debated extensively, and I urge all board members to thoroughly review previous presentations and committee discussions.

Sometimes you meet someone who brings quiet joy to a situation.

It might be their smile. Or a special touch with the things they do.

They radiate kindness. They are infectious, heartwarming, hospitable. You are happier in their presence.

I want to appreciate Stephanie Matthews, a stellar human being, friend, mother, wife and daughter. Many of you know Stephanie. She’s in our midst on certain Mondays, serving coffee, cookies and Cuties.

She even brings stylish platters to present these delights to you in the little window of service on Mondays when she’s there.

Thank you for blessing us with your gifts of love and care. We love you, treasured friend.

I was reading in the recent LW paper how apparently someone or someones is taking produce from others’ plots.

That is terrible to happen to anyone who puts in a lot of work, time, and effort into growing their plot.

I was reading somewhere before online on YouTube how much of the time (95% of the time) the person(s) taking from others plots is a plot owner themselves and when they see someone else’s plot doing well they go steal from it.

I would suggest erecting a tall locked fence around the front of the garden where only owners can get into it, but if it’s an inside job then a fence won’t be useful.

Otherwise, I would suggest maybe installing a few cameras around the garden plots.

Thank you for the article on the increased use of the Leisure World buses. I moved into LW last March, but didn’t start using the bus until after the transportation meeting sponsored by Impaired Vision and Hearing Club. Since then I have used the Access bus on a regular basis to get to medical appointments at the Optum health center.

My request is to please, please find a way to educate staff on the difference between the on-call bus and the Access bus. Due to mobility issues, I can only use the Access bus.

When I call and specify the access bus, I often get the on-call bus instead, which does me no good. Also, some Security staff don’t understand that a reservation on the Access bus entitles you to a return trip without an additional reservation. Improved understanding of these issues would greatly increase enjoyment of the system.

I also want to endorse the article description of the bus drivers. They are always friendly and supportive in helping to resolve any issues.

Every single driver I’ve had has been fabulous.

Also, it would be awesome to schedule the Access Bus on the half hour as well as the hour.
