The LW Arirang Club meets Sundays upstairs in Clubhouse 6 from 5-8 p.m. The club previously met on Fridays, but changed the schedule to reduce noise impact on people exercising at the gym.

The club provides residents the opportunity to experience Arirang while learning to play and enjoy the janggu, a traditional a Korean hourglassshaped drum, and to drum. Playing the janggu and drum helps participants improve muscle coordination, memory and cognitive function. It promotes movement, concentration and emotional expression while enjoying social interactions.

Participants express different emotions through playing soft, slow, fast, strong etc. Playing includes standing, sitting, marching, upper body extension, and arm swinging in unison with leader.

The club is led by Mutual 15 resident Young Park, who brings over 30 years of experience to the class.

In the past two months, the club’s membership has grown from five to 20 members.

New members are welcome. Those interested in joining should contact Young Park at 909-580-0590 or Connie Kang at 909-576-7956.
