EMERGENCY INFORMATION COUNCIL

Boots on Ground is a disaster preparedness plan for Leisure World developed by resident Marty Williams under the patronage of the Emergency Information Council (EIC). It is a neighbor-helping -neighbor initiative that establishes disaster response command and coordination responsibilities and activities among participating Leisure World clubs and other local entities. Participating entities, include the Rollin’ Thunder Club, Paws Claws and Beaks Club, Radio Club, Community Emergency Response Teams and bike owners. Those and others have important roles to play during a disaster response, and those roles are specified and organized under Boots on Ground.

A critical missing component up until now has been a place to store required equipment such as canopies, stretchers, gurneys and cots that may be needed during an emergency response. That missing link was recently found when the EIC acquired the 16-foot cargo trailer. The trailer’s mobility facilitates quickly deploying the needed materials to their preassigned locations throughout the community.

Funding for the purchase of the trailer came mostly from charitable grants by the Alamitos Energy Center (formerly AES), the City of Seal Beach through Council Member Ben Wong and donations from residents received through the EIC’s free vital document scanning events.
