Letters to the Editor

Editor:

Earlier this month, I noticed there was no hot water in my apartment. I called my son who lives in Riverside, who comes to visit me twice weekly, and he called maintenance for me.

Service Maintenance staff Jesus (JT) Nunez, Alex Ramirez and Eddie Cervantes showed up to my unit and let me know that my very old water heater was past its useful life and would need to be changed, but that Leisure World would take care of it.

They came March 3, and the lady who is in charge of our Mutual, Donna Melody, helped explain the process to me, and when they’d come.

They came right on time. They changed the water heater. They had to actually open it up. It was a complicated process, and it took several hours. There was a camaraderie between the three men that I appreciated. They even put down pieces of cardboard so they could move the equipment without damaging my carpet. They were just really great, very polite. I feel very lucky to live here in Leisure World, where things like this are taken care of.

I would like to recommend an excellent senior meal delivery service called Simply Delicious. I have been enjoying this service for over a year. All recipes are created by Salim Khoury, the owner and chef. The service offers a tremendous variety of healthy, delicious foods in generous portions, including hot meals, sandwiches, soups, salads, fruits, breads, desserts, etc., and two 8-ounce bottles of water each day.

I received substitutions for foods I did not like and gluten free and other preferences are available.

All meals are freshly prepared and delivered to my door. For information about the meals, menus, and pricing, visit www.simplydelicious.app, or you can text or call Salim at 562-754-8487. Salim will be happy to talk to you about his wonderful meal service.

I would like the folks in Leisure World to know that bird feeders are illegal in most Mutuals.

Despite that, I know they are in Mutual 7.

I had a bird feeder for a while but was told to take it down, and I miss seeing the birds from my window.

I am not alone. The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC), an annual global citizen-science event, just had its 28th annual count from Feb. 14-17, with an estimated 838,113 participants from over 200 countries identifying 8,078 different bird species.

If that many people can have bird feeders up, then I would assume it is pretty safe to have one. I would ask residents to talk to their board members and help change that regulation.

I have noticed that after the paving of the parking lot for the Amphitheater, the USPS mailbox was reinstalled.

But the Orange County Registrar’s ballot drop box has not yet been returned. What happened? Where is it? When is it coming back?

Thank you. Adrianne Rosenfeld Mutual 14 Editor’s Note: According to the GRF Recreation Office, which coordinates contact between the Registrar's Office and Leisure World, the ballot drop box will be reinstalled, but the exact date has not been set.

It will be in place prior to the election, according to the Registrar’s Office. In addition, the Registrar will also hold another one-day pop-up vote center in Leisure World, date to be determined.

Regarding an article in the Feb. 26 issue of the Leisure World Weekly headlined “Artist creates free custom sculptures,” Mr. and Mrs. Sung Kim are very nice, thoughtful and caring people. I called a couple of days after reading the article. Within three days, he completed my sculpture. My daughter had to have her cat, Jack, put down after 12 years. She is very upset.

I am sure she will love the figurine of Jack. It’s an amazing likeness. He refused any donation. We have some wonderful people here in Leisure World.
