LW Men’s Golf Club dues should be paid by April 1

A warm sun and clear sky greeted 43 players of the LW Men’s Golf Club on Feb. 26. It was a windless and lovely morning to play golf with friends. The golfers teed off at 7:30 a.m. at the 1,680-yard par 54 Turtle Lake Golf Course. Each man competed for best net scores, four circle holes, and two closest to the pin challenges. Players must be club members to participate in tournament payouts and need a handicap. If dues are not paid by April 1, golfers can play but will not be able to participate in any payouts.

The front nine was played from the much shorter red tees, and the blue tees on the back. This had some effect on scoring as only 19 of the 43 men scored net at or under par, as well as only 44 birdies and nine circle holes. Closest to the pin on holes No. 2 and No. 11 was “Sharpshooter” Seon Kim for the second tournament in a row. Average net score for the round was 2.7 strokes over par.

Low net scores for the round were Jon Russell at 8 under 46, Scott Tuchfarber at 6 under 48, and James Farr and Jae H. Lee at 4 under 50.

A flight winners (handicaps of 0-6): Andrew Kim, first place; Fujio Norihiro, Seung Lee and Bob Johnston, second; Alan Sewell and Jun Um, third.

B flight winners (handicaps of 7-13): Farr and Jae H. Lee, first place; Won H. Park, second; Jonn Sup Yoon, third; Richard Yokomi and Won G. Park, fourth; Steve Walker, fifth.

C flight winners (handicaps of 14-18): Russell, first place; Tuchfarber, second; John Burns, third; Mark Tal, fourth; Byron Schweitzer and Darry Holtzen, fifth.

The next men’s tournament is on March 11. Those scheduled or who plan to play and cannot should contact Scott Tuchfarber at 909-684-0426, or Dave La-Cascia at 801-674-5975 as soon as possible.

With golfers fixing their divots and ball marks, fairways, tees and greens are looking better. The club thanks everyone for seeding the tees and raking sand traps.
