Tournament Poker Club will play March 7 in CH 6
Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in should make plans to play on Saturday, March 7, with the Tournament Poker Club in Clubhouse 6. Regular tournaments are on the first three Saturdays of every month and start with registration at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating. This has become even more important in the last few weeks as tournaments are at seating capacity. Those arriving late will most likely not be able to play.
A new poker lessons class will begin in April. Those interested in learning Texas Hold ‘Em basics can call Debbie Barner at 325-721-0687.
At the tournament on Feb. 14, there were 72 players ready to play and celebrate Valentine’s Day. High hand winners were Jack Watson (King high straight flush) and Roy Mittlestadt (9-99-9-K) and Harold Moorehead (K-K-K-A-A). Terry Gonzalez won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 4-10.
As the winners of their original tables, the final table players were: Ray Lim, first place; Jeff Rolnick, second; Wendy Wu, third; Harold Morehead, fourth; Jae Jun, fifth; George Casto, sixth; Jess Pringle, seventh; Namil Shin, eighth, and Brent Covington, ninth. Play continued at the final table until Rolnick and Lim were head’s up. In the final hand of the match, Lim was holding 2 spades and 3 clubs, and Rolnick had ace of diamonds and an 8 of hearts. The flop came Jack of hearts, 2 clubs , Jack diamonds, giving both players several options. Rolnick went all in and was called by Lim. The turn was a 7, which was no help to either player. The river was a Jack of clubs, which gave Lim a full house (J-J-J-2-2). With the turn of a card, the smaller hand was the winner.
Lim has lived in Leisure World and been a member of the Tournament Poker Club for two years. He plays poker in several other groups and is also a member of the Mahjong Club and a regular at the gym.
