Accessory swap a success; next meeting focuses on travel attire
FUN WITH FASHION
The Fun With Fashion Club will meet March 9 in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, at 6 p.m. The meeting will focus on travel attire. People will be invited to share packing tips.
On Feb. 9, the club met for an accessory exchange with a Valentine’s Day theme. Many wore red to celebrate the holiday. “Be a valentine” was the topic of President Camille Dull’s introduction to the evening. She explained that Valentine’s Day didn’t have to be limited to romantic love; it could be used to also express the vastness and diversity of love. She suggested several ways to “be a valentine,” like reaching out to an old friend people haven’t talked to in a long time; taking one step toward mending a broken or fragile relationship; or doing an anonymous good deed. She also offered ideas for being a valentine to oneself, like making a list of all the happy things in life, or beginning that pet project to which a person is drawn but never seems to start; or to make a list of their accomplishments or things that made them feel effective and satisfied. The Greek language has eight different words for love: agape, spiritual love; eros, romantic love; Philia, love for friends; storge, familial love; mania, obsessive love; ludus, playful love; and philautia, self love.
Brenda Thomason talked about the need to drink water and pay attention to one’s feet, especially the toes. Supple ankles and toes are needed for balance. Thomason suggested a few exercises for ankles, feet and toes. Walking on grass is good way to help with balance because it’s a slightly uneven surface, she said, emphasizing the need to find time daily to practice balance, like linking it to a common activity such as brushing one’s teeth.
Fashion stylist Theresa Metzler suggested ways to use accessories to their best advantage.
For the swap portion of the evening, members brought a plethora of interesting accessories, including jewelry, scarves, hats, belts, purses and more. Leftover items were responsibly donated.
