Leg Swelling: Causes and Treatments

Leg swelling is a common condition especially in older adults and people who don’t move enough or have circulation changes.

The following can help reduce swelling and discomfort:

• Light activity—walking and simple ankle or calf exercises

• Leg elevation—raising the legs when sitting or lying down

• Staying hydrated—drinking enough water

• Frequently changing positions while standing up or sitting down

• Wearing compression socks
