Redeemer Lutheran and St. Theodore Episcopal

On Sunday, Feb. 1, the congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate the fourth Sunday after Epiphany. Rev. Murray Finck will preside over the 10:30 a.m. holy Communion service at 13564 St. Andrews Drive. All are welcome to join.

Join the congregation after service for coffee, tea, cookies and snacks in the Fellowship Hall. The congregation will accept new members in the spring. Anyone interested in becoming a member should speak to Rev. Finck or one of the church council members.

The bazaar committee has decided to have twice-a-month crafting get-togethers on the first and third Mondays at 10 a.m. The next meeting will be Feb. 2 in the Fellowship Hall. This will allow the congregation to better prepare for the spring and fall bazaars. All crafters are welcome.

The group will have preplanned projects that anyone can do with the materials provided. People are also welcome to share their ideas for future crafts.

The Bible study is currently going over the Acts of the Apostles. The group meets from noon-1:15 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Fellowship Hall.

People can bring a lunch and Bible. The study for this week revolves around Acts 15:3618:28. It is Paul’s second missionary journey in Asia Minor and Macedonia. During this journey, Timothy and Silas join Paul, and interact with Lydia and Apollos.

The Gospel lesson for the week of Feb. 1 is from Matthew 5:1-12. Jesus begins the Sermon on the Mount and the listing of the Beatitudes. He defines a new covenant,“if you do/are this; this will be the reward from God.”

Jesus takes inspiration from the 10 Commandment covenant, which is a list of how to treat one another and God, to a guidance of the Commandments. Jesus takes people’s faith from childlike a listing of dos and don’ts to an adult: how to treat one another in relationships.
