LW Cares Fund to show ‘It’s Basic’

The LW Cares Fund will show the film “It’s Basic,” a mustsee documentary covering poverty, inequality, and the future of work on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 1:30 p.m. in Clubhouse 4.

The film provides an eye-opening look at the power of cash to transform lives and communities. “It’s Basic” looks at several pilot programs launched in the U.S. that test the effects of giving everyday people an extra $500 to $1,000 monthly, with no strings attached. Produced by Mayors for a Guaranteed Income Founder Michael Tubbs, the film explores the power of cash, the importance of dignity, and the ongoing work of providing an income floor through the eyes of guaranteed income recipients who have witnessed firsthand the life-altering effects of financial stability. Their real-life challenges of trying to get by on a daily basis are at the heart of the film. It also highlights the pivotal role of local leadership in creating a more just and equitable society.

The Leisure World Cares Fund is applying the “It’s Basic” idea to provide a $200 subsidy to residents on low fixed incomes to help pay their HOA carrying charges.
