Letters to the Editor

Editor:

Regarding the survey for relocating the game room, there is not enough information for residents to make informed decisions and comments. The following information is needed to make a meaningful comment based on fact and accurate data:

• Location and current use of the flex room.

• Reason for the relocation.

• Cost of relocation and financial impact on the monthly due.• Recurring and ongoing cost of operating, maintaining, and additional personnel.

• Number of residents using the game room in relation to other amenities.

What is the plan for the current game room after the relocation?

At one time, the demand for clubs and available rooms to use for meeting or club function exceeded supply to the point where residents resorted to creating new clubs just so they could get more room reservation. Would this be another consideration to use the Flex Room?

Doing a resident survey is a good idea.

But I would appreciate more information to offer my informed opinions answering the survey questions.

1. Where in Clubhouse 2 is the flex space? A floor plan? How large is the space?

2. What is it used for now? How often? By whom?

3. What is the estimated cost of acquiring and maintaining the pinball and vending machines?

Your courtesy and cooperation are greatly appreciated. Simon A. Housman Mutual 5 Editor’s Note The flex space occupies the southwest corner of Clubhouse 2 and was formerly a woodshop. The room is next to the current game room which is attached to the pool room. Relocation of the game room to the flex space separates two incompatible activities.

Billiards players, particularly during organized play and tournaments, expect a quiet and controlled environment.

In contrast, the arcade-style game room produces ample discordant noise, excited children and higher traffic.

The flex space is currently without purpose and will otherwise be made available for reservations. It is 150 square feet larger than the game room, which will allow for an expansion of games (pinball is under consideration) and vending machines. This change will encourage more utilization from gamers as well as drop-ins from the exterior multiuse courts for refreshments.

The current game room can be repurposed for card players. This activity is compatible with the attached pool room.

Costs associated with the move are negligible. No improvements to the rooms are necessary. Expenses for new games or additional furniture vary widely and will be at the discretion of the Member Services Committee if they choose to recommend them.

The Member Services Committee is expected to vote on this issue at its next meeting at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10, in Conference Room A in the Administration Building. Editor: I have enjoyed many of the GRF Recreation Department events. I am grateful for all the entertainment offered.

I wish that we had more events for grandchildren and families.

We could hold a grandchild’s day celebration with bounties, music and food trucks. I feel that dogs get more respect in LW than grandchildren.

I do not have grandchildren. But I do have a degree in child development.

Intergenerational activities greatly enrich the lives of seniors.

So I am requesting that the game room remain as is and the flex room be added as an additional space set aside for family members and guests activities.

We do not need the expense to move the room.

We do not need the expense of a wall being removed.

We just need to use the additional space for family activities in the flex room.

Laguna Woods, a senior community, actively promotes events that bring seniors and youth together, providing purpose and fun for both generations, My neighbors have young grandchildren, it would be nice if they had a space to take them to when they visit.

We need more space for young children.

If you own a Kia vehicle, be aware of the following scam.

I received a letter in the mail this week with “Kia Vehicle Owner Anti-Theft Tracking Information” labeled on the front. Since my car does have a built-in tracking system, I opened it.

The header said “anti-theft tracking expiration notice” and provided a phone registration number, etc.

This is a scam.

I verified this fact with my dealership. Please don’t engage with this company and definitely don’t provide them with any financial information. Good luck.
