The congregation of Redeemer Lutheran and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal church approved the donation of a portion of their fundraising efforts to Leisure World Cares. On Nov. 16, a check for $3,661 was presented to Nick Massetti, president of LW Cares by Rev. Murray Finck and church council president Kay Pushman.

In other news, the church’s baby Jesus figure was removed from the creche sometime after Sunday, Jan. 4. Anyone who knows the location of baby Jesus should let the church know.

On Sunday, Jan. 18, the congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will celebrate the Second Sunday after Epiphany at 10:30 a.m. The holy Communion service, led by Rev. Murray Finck, meets at 13564 St. Andrews Drive. All residents are welcome to join. Nancy Anderson will be the prayer leader and Kay Pushman the reader.

Join the congregations after the service for coffee, tea, cookies and snacks in the Fellowship Hall.

The new 2026 Flower Chart is available for sign ups.

The congregations continue to collect boxed and canned goods to donate to the Lutheran Social Services to feed the hungry in Orange County.

The bazaar committee has decided to have a crafting group twice a month on the first and third Mondays at 10 a.m., starting on Jan. 19, downstairs in the Fellowship Hall. This will help prepare for the spring and fall Bazaars. All crafters are welcome. The group will have pre-planned projects that any

The Bible study is currently focused on the Acts of the Apostles. The study meets on Wednesdays at the church from noon-1:15 p.m. People can bring their lunch, Bible and a friend.

Acts 3-7 is about the growth and challenges in Jerusalem, the early expansion of followers of Christ, what Christ-like stewardship looks like, miracles of the apostles and the appointment of deacons. It also covers Stephen’s martyrdom, and the beginning of the first instances of persecution and opposition toward early Christians.

In Acts 8-12, persecutions intensify while the gospel spreads beyond Jerusalem to Judea and Samaria. These chapters also cover the conversion of Saul (Paul) and the inclusion of Gentiles.

The Bible study will cover these themes and more.

The gospel lesson for Sunday, Jan. 18, is from John 1:29-42. Two of John’s followers began following Jesus, who told them to come and see, rather than explain who he was. They began spreading the word of who Jesus is: the Messiah. Peter becomes one of the first of Jesus’ apostles.
