Congressman Robert Garcia will be the guest speaker for the Democratic Club on Wednesday, Jan. 28, in Clubhouse 4 at 1:30 p.m. Garcia represents the LW community in CA-42 after the passage of Proposition 50 and the subsequent redistricting. Congressman Dave Min was switched to CA-47, which shifted south to include parts of Newport Beach. The club looks forward to hearing updates from Washington D.C., and learning about Garcia’s vision for the new district.
On Tuesday, Jan. 20, the 50501 Movement and Women’s March are teaming up with neighbors across the country for the “Free America Walkout.” Starting at 2 p.m. local time, students, workers and families are invited to step away from their daily routines to show support for democratic values and community rights. This peaceful, nationwide event is about bringing people together to ensure voices are heard and shared civil liberties are protected. The club encourages all members to join under the LW Globe at 2 p.m. Signs will be available.
To keep the momentum going, Indivisible will support friendly walk-in visits to congressional offices, giving people a chance to speak up for accountability and constitutional checks and balances. By combining this community-led walkout with local outreach, the group is showing that collective action makes a real difference. Dates for these events will be shared on the club’s website and Facebook page.
The Democratic Hospitality Booth is open the first Tuesday and third Thursday of each month outside Clubhouse 6 from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Join club members for lunch at Hof’s Hut off Seal Beach Boulevard at 11:30 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. The next lunch will be Feb. 4. For more information, email Debbie Wrathall at debbiewrathall@mac.com.
The next Voter Education Session is Feb. 11 at 10:30 a.m., Clubhouse 3, Room 3. People will create and send postcards and call state and national representatives and voters during the session. Bev Bender recommends downloading the “5 Calls” app. For more information, email beverleybender@gmail.com.
The SBLW Democratic Club believes health care is a right, diversity is a strength, the economy should work for everyone and that facts and truth matter.
