The Optum Health Care Center, in partnership with the Red Cross, will hold a blood drive Friday, Jan. 9, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

All Red Cross donors who give blood from Jan. 1-25 will be entered for a chance to win a trip for two to Super Bowl LX, which will be held on Feb. 8 in Santa Clara, California.

Donors, especially those who give regularly, help keep the U.S. blood supply stable. Although many people donate blood after disasters, blood is needed every day of the year.

There is no substitute for blood—it cannot be manufactured. Transfusions are a critical, potentially life-saving treatment for patients with traumatic injuries, cancer, blood disorders such as sickle cell disease and chronic anemia, acute blood loss, and those undergoing surgery.

“It’s a new year and a new chance to save lives,” said Red Cross account manager Peter Vu.

To donate, call 714-356-2906 or 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800733-2767). Walk-ins are welcome.

Interested donors should bring a valid photo ID and make sure to hydrate and eat a healthy meal beforehand. Make sure to wear a shirt with sleeves that can be rolled up. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds.

Judy Ankenman, Mutual 6, donates regularly and started when her childrenwere young. She thinks it's such aneasy way to make a big difference.

Jacuita “Jo” Turner, Mutual 12, said, “Everybody should donate” at the last blood drive.
