HUI O HULA

As Hui O Hula, Leisure World’s Hawaiian dance club, welcomes the new year, hula lessons continue with a welcoming, open-door spirit.

All are invited to participate, regardless of skill level or experience.

A new year is always a good time to step in, listen to the music, and move together. Classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. For more information, call or text 562338-1502.

A new hula subject this January is “Holoholo Ka’a,” a song and dance celebrating the simple joy of riding in a car; cruising without worries, winding along the roads until the moon comes up and it’s time to head home.

A big mahalo to Rollin’ Thunder Golf Cart Club President Roy Nakamura for inviting Hui O Hula dancers to entertain club members at the Jan. 9 dinner in Clubhouse 4. The evening’s hula program will be a Hawaiian mixed plate—a little bit of everything—featuring dances from different times of the year and reflecting the many rhythms and moods of island life.

Kudos also go to Hui O Hula dancer Libby Bond and all those who helped decorate the Clubhouse 6 Christmas tree, which was recognized by the judges as best executed.

As the tree comes down, dancers look forward to new community projects ahead and more opportunities to support one another and grow together.

Happy January birthdays to dancers Keiko Kawamoto, Seung Lee, Yo Kishi and Miyuki Okura.

Many thanks to Optum's Manager of Clinical Operations Jayna Kling (front row, right) and the Health Care Center team for their warm aloha in welcoming Hui O Hula dancers during the holidays. The dancers were invited to share a few Christmas hula in the lobby with patients and staff. All had great fun dancing "The Twelve Days of Christmas" together.
