Democratic Club

The Democratic Club board of directors shares with heavy hearts with members, neighbors and friends of the passing of the club’s “Editor-in-Chief” Mary Larson.
For years, the bi-monthly newsletter and weekly LW Weekly submissions were a labor of love from a woman who believed that information is the greatest gift one can give her community. Larson did not just write the newsletter; she curated it with a deep respect for the truth and an even deeper respect for her readers.
From her early years of service to her leadership in Leisure World, Larson’s mission never wavered. She understood that while residents may be in their “golden years,” their voices have never been more important. As Larson often reminded people through her work,“Senior voices are vital to the health of our democracy. We must spend every day ensuring those voices are informed, active and heard.”
Her standards were legendary. Whether she was analyzing complex legislative shifts or brainstorming during special sessions, she did so with meticulous care of a true professional. It was this dedication that earned the club’s newsletter the highest compliments from the Democratic Party of Orange County, but for Larson, the greatest reward was simply knowing that her neighbors felt empowered at the ballot box.
Today, the club invites people to honor her by staying in the game. Look after neighbors, verify facts, and never stop asking how they can help. Larson has set down her pen, but the conversation she started continues with all residents.
