Income subsidy pioneer to speak

LW CARES FUND

Michael Tubbs, special advisor to California Gov. Gavin Newsom for economic mobility, will speak at the Leisure World Cares Fund’s meeting on Dec. 9 at 10:30 a.m. in the Clubhouse 3 Lobby.

Tubbs came into prominence as the youngest mayor of any major city in American history when he became the mayor of Stockton at age 26. Among his accomplishments was pioneering the first guaranteed basic income pilot, now embraced by 150-plus mayors nationwide. That successful and growing initiative was the inspiration for the HOA subsidy program that the Leisure World Cares Fund founded earlier this year. In October, results from a total of 25 scientifically rigorous studies found guaranteed income programs improved financial stability, greater housing and food security, and better mental health.

founder of End Poverty in California (EPIC). Tubbs is running to be California’s next lieutenant governor to build a future with enough affordable housing so people can afford to live here. It’s a future that leverages guaranteed basic income programs to end poverty and prevent homelessness.

Co-sponsoring the event are the Seniors for Peace Club and the Democratic Club. To learn more about the Leisure World Cares Fund and to apply for a grant or donate to enable grants visit www.lwcaresfund.org or call 562-262-8280.
