First Christian Church

In Romans 9, the apostle Paul focuses on God’s sovereignty and how he had elected the Israelites as a special treasure unto himself. Moses and Pharaoh are examples of God’s sovereign election to show his divine power over all his creation when he stated, “that I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.”

In Romans 9:22-33, Paul writes about Israel and its unbelief and God’s mercy. In 2 Peter 3:9 the apostle Peter wrote, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promises, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

God in his sovereignty and righteousness choose those whom he will for honor and dishonor. This is due to his grace, mercies, and love and desire for all to come to repentance.
