Band of the Battalion and Wind Symphony Performance: Dec. 8

The Long Beach City College Evening Wind Symphony and Band of the California Battalion will perform a special holiday concert on Monday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. in Clubhouse 4. Admission is free.

The Evening Wind Symphony and Band of the California Battalion are under the direction of Dr. Gary Thomas Scott, retired dean of the School of Creative Arts and Applied Sciences at Long Beach City College. A holiday-themed program is planned by the Wind Symphony that includes the concert march “Colossus of Columbia,” “Chorale and Shaker Dance” by John Zdechlik, a poignant setting of Franck Tichelli’s “Loch Lomond” and several fun holiday favorites.

The Band of the California Battalion, a fully reenacted Civil War brass band, will provide a program of music from a period when “instruments had character and characters had instruments!” The band is celebrating 33 years as an ensemble and has toured all over the country providing concerts, living history presentations and special performances.
