Connie Young

Connie Young, wife of Jay Young, passed away on Oct. 30. The family will have a celebration of life at Community Church in Leisure World on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 3:30 p.m. Connie wanted the Southside Jazz Band at her service, and they will play. All of her friends are welcome. Those who plan to attend should text or call Jay Young at 562-706-4921.

Connie and Jay married after attending the University of Redlands together. They were together for 72 years. After Jay graduated, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. Connie stayed in Redlands and worked on her degree. They had a daughter during that time, keeping Connie busy taking care of a baby, going to school and working in a department store. Connie completed her bachelors degree at Long Beach State while her husband completed his master’s after finishing his service. The two would go on to have two more sons.

Connie was a teacher in the Seal Beach School district for 29 years after teaching in Long Beach for a few years. She was loved by all of her students. After moving to Seal Beach in 1959, Connie took time off to raise her sons before teaching at Zoeter Elementary and McGaugh Elementary schools.

Connie loved to travel. She planned trips to 63 countries and 19 cruises. They also had three motorhomes and traveled through all continental 40 states, Canada and Mexico. They also loved playing bridge and were both Life Masters. She played in a bridge group for over 60 years with her Seal Beach friends. They spent a lot of time at the Colorado River and Bass Lake. Connie could jump start water skiing on one ski off the shore. She also loved golf, but some of her true passions were dancing, singing in the choir and playing piano. Her neighbors said they will miss her beautiful playing.

Connie and Jay have six grandchildren, and she was proud of every one of them. The all got to see her within days before her passing.

Connie was dealing with cancer during the last few months of her life, but she passed peacefully in her sleep. She even had a smile on her face.
