Wa-Rite members lose over 21 pounds in just one week
Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by no later than 8:45 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork.
On Oct. 24, members lost a total of 21.5 pounds for the week. Mary Kay Sherman was the biggest loser with a 3-pound loss. Sherman said that she ate smaller portions and her new home remodeling in Leisure World also aided in her weight loss.
Sherman also gave a presentation on the importance of Omega-3 fatty acids and its nutrients. In addition to supporting the brain function, eyes and heart, Omega-3 can fight inflammation. It can be found in seafood, nuts and seeds, dark-green leafy vegetables like kale, spinach and Brussels sprouts; eggs, milk, yogurt and certain types of breads and cereal. People can also take a fish oil supplement. Those on blood thinners should consult with their doctor before taking the Omega-3 supplement.
The weekly food for thought was: “Even small changes can have a big impact—a half-pound a week equals 25 pounds a year.”
