A clear, sunny, and very wet morning greeted 50 players of the LW Men’s Golf Club on Oct. 22. The golfers teed off starting at 7:30 a.m. at the 1,680-yard par 54 Turtle Lake Golf Course. The course remained in great condition with one wet spot on the third fairway and a few ground bubbles caused by leaky sprinkler heads.

Each man competed for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius rewarded), and two closest to the pin challenges.

Dampness and cool weather contributed to 20 of the 50 men scoring net at or under par, and there were 66 birdies with seven circle hole winners. Closest to the pin on hole No. 8 was Pat Paternoster at 6 feet, 2 inches, and on No. 17 it was Seon Kim Jackson at 5 feet, 10 inches. Average net score for the round was 55.4 or nearly 1.5 strokes over par.

Low gross scores for the round were Bill Lyons, 3 under 51; John Kolthoff, 1 under 53; and Bob Turner, even par 54. John Russell had the low net of the round at 8 under 46, followed by Ben Benjamins, 7 under 47; and Darry Holten, 5 under 49. Bob Turner had the rare hole-inone on the 83-yard hole No. 7.

Net score equals gross minus handicap.

A flight winners (handicaps of 0-5): Turner, first place; Lyons, second; Owens, third; Glenn Barry, Kolthoff and Gene Archambault, fourth; Seon Kim, Thomas Kim and Bob Johnston, fifth.

The next men’s tournament will be on Nov. 12. Those scheduled or who plan to play in any tournament and cannot should contact Scott Tuchfarber at 909-684-0426 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975 as soon as possible. Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to scheduled tee time and be ready to play.

—Dave LaCascia Golfers should help keep the course in good condi - tion. All golfers need to repair their ball marks on all greens to prevent the greens from being shut down again. Use the seed material to fill in tee box divots, and as there are two rakes at each bunker, there is no excuse not to rake shoe prints.
