The Salvation Army donation event, held by the Golden Age Foundation (GAF) on Oct. 11 was once again a widely attended event. A steady and continuous line was formed in the Amphitheater parking lot, filling three trucks with donations. During the five hour event, employees and volunteers served 422 vehicles.

The GAF had two shifts of six volunteers to help with unloading and moving boxes to containers that the Salvation Army employees stacked into the trucks.

Most of the 422 vehicles donated an average of 5-7 bags of items, including small furniture, kitchen appliances, house appliances, golf clubs, luggage, house appliances, men’s suits, shoes, CDs, books, women’s handbags, comforters, boxes of canned soup and other miscellaneous items. Larger donated items included a loveseat, a living room set, a small desk and a few TVs.

The next event will be held on Dec. 13, from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Amphitheater parking lot.

The GAF thanks the five Salvation Army workers and GAF volunteers: Anna Derby, Rosemarie Da Roza, Charlie Dunn, Jennifer Shin, Tonette Kadrmas, Michael Chang, Karen Ford, Geneva Potepan, Tracy Day, Sigrun Rodgers, Marianne Goldberg and Mary Dodd, for their hard work, greeting, lifting, moving, and thanking everyone for bringing donations.

Special thanks to Charlie Dunn for covering all day volunteering to cover the shortage of afternoon shift volunteers.

The GAF also thanks everyone who generously donated extra tips. The donations from this event more than doubled from prior events the GAF hosted.

The Salvation Army accepts donations of clean, gently used, salable household items including clothing, bedding, linens, kitchenware, small appliances and electronics, toys, sporting goods, books, art, home decor and small and medium sized furniture.
