Letters to the Editor
Editor:
On behalf of The Salvation Army, I would like to extend heartfelt thanks for hosting another fabulous donation drive on Oct. 11.
Thanks to the leadership of GAF President Anna Derby and the hard work of GAF volunteers, plus the generosity of the Leisure World community, the event was a tremendous success.
The drive brought in a remarkable volume of donated goods.
Three trucks were filled with 2,320 pounds of clothing, an extreme amount housewares and many great pieces of furniture, as well as many other items.
This is an incredible contribution that directly supports individuals and families in need.
We are deeply grateful for Leisure World’s commitment to making a positive impact.

Today, I experienced something I could not have imagined, even in my wildest dreams.
I went to Target for a routine eye exam. As I exited my car, I observed two men at the entrance dressed in black and wearing masks filming the entire vicinity in front of Target, including anyone walking toward or away from the entrance. It was unnerving, but I just continued on with my errand. When inside, I called the Seal Beach police.
I was told that officers were aware of this, and it has happened before and in other locations.
The officer explained that the men were First Amendment rights influencers. Their goal is to incite an argument and post it on Facebook.
The officer explained that police do not intervene in these situations and suggested ignoring them is the best strategy to deal with this kind of incident. What these influencers want is a reaction from passersby.
I am writing about this as an FYI in case anyone else comes across such an incident.

As a longtime resident of Leisure World, I am well aware of the many choices we have for ready-to-eat meals.
For a long time, I was in the habit of getting frozen meals to pop into the microwave. But getting to the grocery store was difficult after I gave up my car. After receiving a flyer for Simply Delicious, I decided to give it a try.
To my delight, they were great.
As as added bonus, I was able to delete a couple of items that were not to my liking.
My meals are delivered three times a week and are large enough that I can make them last all week.
Simply Delicious advertises in our newspaper.
Give it a try. I’m sure you will enjoy.
