Emergency Prep Expo and time capsule opening is Oct. 18
The GRF Emergency Preparedness Expo will be held Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Clubhouse 3 Lobby and Veterans Plaza.
This free event for residents combines resources, demonstrations and exhibits designed to help everyone stay prepared in the event of an emergency.
A special highlight this year will be the opening of a time capsule sealed in the year 2000 by the Leisure World Historical Society. The capsule contains predictions written by residents about life in 2025 as well as mystery items that will be revealed by Historical Society President Margaret Gillon. The contents will remain on display during the expo.
Along with the time capsule, residents can meet with the American Red Cross Orange County Chapter, Falck Mobile Care, OC211, and local groups including the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the Emergency Information Council, Amateur Radio Emergency Service and the Radio Club. The event will also feature live safety demonstrations, face painting and a live musical performance by the Legends of Rock in Veterans Plaza.
Koffel’s Food Truck will be on site with food available for purchase, and attendees can enter a free raffle for emergency supplies.
This year’s Emergency Preparedness Expo is sponsored by SCAN and Angel Connection Home Services.
For more information about the event, contact GRF Health and Safety Specialist Eloy Gomez at 562-431-6586, ext. 2356.

At the 2000 New Year's dance in Leisure World, residents filled out sheets with their predictions for the year 2025. Those predictions will be unveiled at the expo.
