In the fourth week of the Monday pool league, also known as the American league, The Burners beat The Renegades 10-3. This win moved The Burners into a first place tie with RDS, with each team having a record of 29 wins and 23 losses. Jennifer Spindler led The Burners with six wins, losing only a nine ball doubles match. The Burners had a big night in singles, winning all six games.

RDS edged the Snow Bros 7-6 by winning the final team eight ball match. Rusty Aquino and Susan Dodson each won four games for RDS.

In another close match, BG& E Electric beat Hot Sticks 7-6. This match also came down to the final team eight ball match. Gary Monahan won five games for BG& E Electric.

In the Wednesday league, also known as the National league, RU Chalking 2 Me continued their winning ways by beating The Pocket Predators 10-3. Phuoc Tran and Brian Tivnan each won five games for RU Chalking 2 Me. They lead the Wednesday league by three games.

Raising Cane beat On the Eight 9-4 to hold down second place. Millie Larsen won both of her singles games for Raising Cane.

The 3 Lads beat The Favorites 8-5 after a slow start. Patrick Conlon and Dave Mackinder each won five games and both of their single matches for 3 Lads.

The word cue came from the French word queue, meaning tail. In the 1600s a mace was used to push the balls. The pointed end of the mace was only used to shoot balls on the rail. Eventually that pointed end was covered with a fibrous tip and became used on all shots. Players found that by using a small cue tip they could apply spin, sometimes called English, to control the cue ball and improve their skills.

Sometimes people ask which cue to buy. Carbon shaft cues tend to be better than wooden cues because they don’t warp and have less deflection due to being more compact. Some of the top brands are Predator, Viking, Cuetex and McDermott.

The cue should weigh at least 19-20 ounces, because light cues tend to fly up and throw a shot off. The best size cue tips are 13, 15 and 17 millimeters and should be slightly rounded.

All pros have a break cue, which is heavier and has a hard tip. They also use a shorter version of the break cue to jump over balls.
