Traffic light feature on the blink

LATE BREAKING

The traffic light at St. Andrews Drive and Golden Rain Road that recently received a safety upgrade was working as intended for a few days last week.

Then, without warning, the audible component of the system failed. This is the part that tells pedestrians when to go in a way that can be heard.

The Golden Age Foundation (GAF) donated that part of the system to the GRF in 2013. GRF Facilities staff is working to replace the component, and updates will be forthcoming as soon as they are available.

The light has now reverted to four phases, including a pedestrian-protected phase, which stops all traffic for 46 seconds whether or not there are pedestrians crossing.

Once the part is replaced, the pedestrian phasing will occur only when people push the appropriate button, so traffic will not be stopped when there is no one crossing the intersection.
