Pastor’s sermon to focus on Romans

FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH

First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, most often verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together, “that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.

Pastor’s Message

The Spirit of adoption, in Romans, Chapter 8, speaks of God adopting believes into his family, and in doing so they can cry out to him as daddy. How intimate it is that people can cry out to the creator of heaven and earth and speak to him as a father figure. According to the Bible, the Holy Spirit has spoken to believer’s spirits, confirming that they are children of God. In Romans 8:14 the apostle Paul wrote, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” To be led by the Spirit means they are now sons of God.

Moving to Romans 8:15-16, the apostle Paul explains, “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out ABBA, Father. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”

The apostle Paul has clearly explained in the Scriptures that people either live in the flesh or in the Spirit. Living in the flesh is to fulfill the desires of man’s sinful nature, that carnal godless nature which brings death. But, to live in the Spirit means that people have put to death the deeds of the body and be led by the Holy Spirit of God as we are now sons or family, allowing Him to lead and direct our thoughts, desires, and actions.

Weekly Services

Sunday services from 9:30-10:45 a.m. are traditional services with hymnal music led by Janet Ray with Sherry Parmenter at the piano. This week Ray will bring the special music.

Saturday services from 9:30-10:45 a.m. include contemporary songs of worship, led by Gregory Black with guitar and vocal accompaniment.

Midweek Studies

Melli Herrera leads the Monday Bible Study from 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Pastor Bruce Humes leads the Thursday Bible Study from 10:3011:30 a.m. and the Friday Prayer and Bible Study from 4-5 p.m.

All Leisure World residents are welcome to attend the above services and Bible studies.
