First Christian Church

First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word the Holy Bible, verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together, “that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.

Pastor’s Message

In Romans 7:15-25 the apostle Paul shared his internal struggle between the new spiritual man and the old carnal man that reside within him. He found himself doing things in the flesh that the spiritual man within him despised and it was causing him serious internal conflict. So much so that in verse 24 he blurted out “O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?”

In verse 25 the apostle Paul answers his own question that he would be delivered through Jesus Christ our Lord and gives thanks to God. He has been saved from sin, he is daily being saved from sin, and he will yet be saved from future sin, with final deliverance being at Christ’s return.

In Romans 8, the apostle Paul continues along this path by contrasting life in the Spirit with life in the flesh. He begins in verse 1 with “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” Condemnation speaks of an “adverse sentence, or verdict” for those that are in Christ Jesus there is no condemnation. That little word “no” in front of condemnation brings great comfort and peace of mind to those who have put their faith, trust, and hope in the resurrected Christ and walk in the Spirit.

Weekly Services

Sunday services are from 9:30-10:45 a.m. and feature traditional hymnal music led by Janet Ray with Ruth Bonnema at the piano. This week, Sandy Carlson will bring the special music.

Saturday services include contemporary songs, led by Gregory Black with guitar and vocal accompaniment. Saturday service time is 9:30-10:45 a.m.

Midweek Studies

Melli Herrera leads the Monday Bible study from 10:3011:30 a.m.

Pastor Bruce Humes leads the Thursday Bible study from 10:3011:30 a.m. and the Friday prayer and Bible study from 4-5 p.m.

All Leisure World residents are welcome to attend the above services and Bible studies.

Scripture of the Week

“The Lord is righteous in all His ways and kind in all His deeds. The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth” Psalm 145:17.
