The LW Men’s Golf Club held its first tournament of the month on Sept. 10. The weather was alternately hot and humid then overcast and breezy for the first few hours, then bright sun for the remainder of the round with a refreshing breeze.

Sixty-two golfers teed off starting at 7:30 a.m. at the 1,680-yard par 54 Turtle Lake Golf Course. Each man competed for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius rewarded), and two closest to the pin challenges. The course was in great condition with some new worn spots showing up between tee boxes.

Hole No. 2 was open after being closed for the better part of a week and the “rest” did it some good. But golfers need to repair their ball marks, on all greens, but especially No. 2. This can eliminate having to shut the hole down again.

With good course conditions and reasonable weather, 23 of the 62 men scored net at or under par, and there were 69 birdies plus a record 20 circle hole winners.

Pat Paternoster had a holein- one on the 56-yard par 3 second hole. Closest to the pin on No. 6 was Paternoster at 5 feet 11 inches, and on No. 17 it was Bob Johnston at 2 feet 7 inches. Low net score for the round was Mike Fennessy at 45, followed by Won Song and Daniel Mahoney at 48 and 49 respectively. Low gross for the tournament was Bill Lyons at 53, followed by Pat Paternoster, Dong On Kim, Tom Owens and Seon Kim tied at 54.

A flight winners (handicaps of 0-5): Mayfield, first place; Paternoster and Lyons, second; Seon Kim, John Kolthoff, Owens and Dong On Kim, third; Dave LaCascia and Mark Rice, fourth.

B flight winners (handicaps of 6-10): John Burns and Steve Walker, first place; Joon Sup Yoon and Hyon Shin, second; Young Lee, third; John Rudosky, fourth; Walter Kim, fifth; Terry Thrift and Bruce Bowles, sixth.

C flight winners (handicaps of 11-18): Fennessy, first place; Song, second; Mahoney, third; James Farr, Dennis Anctil, Scott Tuchfarber and Dennis Jensen, fourth; Byron Schweitzer, fifth; Jon Russell and Won G. Park, sixth.

The next men’s tournament is on Sept. 24. Those scheduled or who plan to play in any tournament and cannot should contact Scott Tuchfarber at 909-684-0426, or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975 as soon possible.

Oct. 29 is the fifth Wednesday of the month, and a shotgun/ scramble is being planned.
