First Christian Church
First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word the Holy Bible, verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together, “that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.
Pastor’s Message
The knowledge of sin is the main theme in Romans 7. Verse 12 tells us the law is holy, and the commandments are good and just. Yet as the apostle Paul continues, he asks in verse 13, “has what is good become death to me?” He is asking if the law is dooming the apostle and other believers to death. He responds with a resounding “certainly not!”
Sin did not originate in the law; the law simply revealed the exceeding sinfulness of it and mankind. Paul wrote in Romans 3:20 that “by the law is the knowledge of sin.” What is mankind’s response when God’s holy law forbids people to do something? It stirs the desires of sinful hearts to do what is forbidden; thus, sin becomes exceedingly sinful. It is not the fault of the law; it is man’s sinful heart that dooms him. In verse 14 Paul says, “For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal.” He goes on in alter verses to explain the struggle that goes on within the believer, between the spiritual and carnal man.
