Six-Week Copper Enameling Class Six-Week Copper Enameling Class

The Lapidary and Jewelry Club will hold a copper enameling class that starts Sept. 10. Classes will be held from 1-3 p.m. and continue for six weeks.

Enameling is the process of adding finely ground colored glass to pieces of copper which are then fired in a kiln to make colorful and lasting pieces of wearable or displayable art.

Students will learn how to prepare the metal and will use various application techniques including layering, stenciling, sgraffito, wet packing and more. Students will learn how to use tools and to safely use the kiln to fire the pieces, which makes them permanent.

Students from past classes have surprised themselves at the attractive and wearable pieces they end up with. The class is taught by LaVerne Christenson, who has more than 20 years experience in the process. The cost for the class is $25 which covers all supplies and materials including copper, enamels and tools. Classes are limited to four people. Sign-up sheets are available in the Lapidary & Jewelry Studio in Clubhouse 4.
