Tournament Poker Club to play Sept. 6 in CH 6
Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in should make plans to play with the Tournament Poker Club on Saturday, Sept. 6, in Clubhouse 6. Regular tournaments are held on the first three Saturdays of every month and start with coffee/ treats and registration at 10 a.m. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.
At the tournament on Aug. 16, the 64 members and guests in attendance came ready to make some moves. Every week there are special prizes for particular hands. This week’s high hand winners were Maryanne Conte (J-J-J-5-5), Chunghe Scharschmidt (10-10-10-Q-Q) and Jeff Rolnick (8-8-8-K-K). Maryanne Conte also won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 8-2.
As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Linda Stone, first place; Treva Carnes, second; Marvin Rolnick, third; Robert Steffun, fourth; Barry Brideau, fifth; Frank DePalma, sixth; and Franca Yeske, seventh. Play continued at the final table until Stone and Carnes —that’s right, two of the best women players—were heads up. It was great to have three women out of the seven players at the final table—and even better to have two of the best of those in the final head’s up match. In the final hand of the match, Stone was holding J-2 and Carnes had Q-4. The flop came J-4-6, giving Stone a pair of jacks. She went all-in and was called by Carnes, who now had a pair of 4s. Neither the turn card, a 9, nor the 10 on the river, was any help for Carnes, and Stone won the match with her jacks.
Stone has lived in Leisure World for 27 years and has been a member of the poker club for 12 years. This was her fifth final table win. Stone loves to read, is a member of the Women’s Club and is Mutual 10 vice president.
