LW Emergency Preparedness Expo set for Oct. 18
LW residents are invited to the Emergency Preparedness Expo on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., in Clubhouse 3 Lobby and Veterans Plaza.
This free resident-only event brings together public safety agencies, emergency services, and community organizations to help residents stay informed and ready in the event of an emergency.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet representatives from the American Red Cross Orange County Chapter, Falck Mobile Care, and OC211 (Orange County United Way), along with exhibitors focused on home safety, pet preparedness and emergency supplies. Participating Leisure World groups include the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Emergency Information Council (EIC), Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and the Radio Club.
Live safety demonstrations, face painting and a musical performance by Legends of Rock in Veterans Plaza will be available for everyone’s enjoyment throughout the day. Koffel’s Food Truck will be on site with a variety of treats available for purchase.
Everyone can enter a free raffle to win emergency preparedness items—good for building or upgrading personal emergency kits.
As a special highlight, the Leisure World Historical Society will open a time capsule that was sealed in the year 2000. The capsule includes residentwritten predictions about life in 2025, as well as mystery items that will be revealed during the event by Historical Society President Margaret Gillon. The contents will remain on display during the expo, and residents are encouraged to stop by and meet members of the Historical Society.
This year’s event is sponsored by SCAN. All residents are encouraged to attend and learn how to stay safe, informed and ready.
