Substitute mobility aid office volunteers needed

GOLDEN AGE FOUNDATION

The Mobility Aid program is Golden Age Foundation’s (GAF) core program for Leisure World residents who have mobility challenges.

The program provides a variety of free equipment designed to provide freedom and independence and to decrease the risk of falling.

The office stocks five types of mobility aids in a variety of sizes in the Mobility Aid Center, located downstairs in Clubhouse 6. People can pick up wheelchairs, transport chairs, four-wheel rollators with seats, knee rollators and front wheel walkers.

Two trained volunteers staff the office Monday-Friday from 9-11 a.m. They provide assistance in choosing the right piece of equipment, adjusting it to the resident’s specific needs and provide instruction on proper use. People can also call the center’s after-hours telephone assistance line staffed by volunteers for information and urgent assistance.

The GAF is looking for substitute volunteers to work in the office occasionally. Those interested should drop by the office for more information.

Every year the GAF loans approximately 2,500 pieces of equipment to residents.

Residents who find any mobility aid items with GAF stickers on them left out by the trash are asked to return to them to the office in Clubhouse 6.
