Wa-Rite loses over 57 pounds as a club in one month
Keeping trigger foods out of the house can help people lose weight more easily.
Wa-Rite is a femaleonly club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by no later than 8:45 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork.
On Aug. 1, Darleen Gardner shared that the club lost a total of 14 pounds for the week, and there was a three-way tie for the biggest loser title. Bea Quintana, Judy Chambers and Henrietta Peavy each lost one pound.
Quintana said that not eating after 5 p.m. and eliminating junk food helps her stay on track.
Chambers said that keeping the trigger foods out of the house helps her lose weight more easily.
Peavy was surprised to find out she lost a pound because it was her birthday week and she did have some cake. She also had a vegetable soup most of the week and made sure not to eat after 6 p.m.
Aug. 1 was the first Friday of the month—a business meeting for Wa-Rite. Members learned that the club lost a total of 57.5 pounds for the month.
Joy Nasser was named a queen of the month. She lost nine pounds by walking and giving up sweets.
Two other members who also lost the most weight were Annette Canale, 8 pounds, and Julie Campbell, 6.5 pounds.
Members who attended every week with no gain were Marianne Barlow, Shirlene Bradrick, Karen Green, Joy Nasser, Bea Quintana and Velma Sarna.
Julie Campbell earned her bachelor’s in weight loss, and Joy Nasser reached her shortterm goal.
Honorable mention went to Ellen Larsen for losing 35 pounds in the past 25 years.
The weekly food for thought was: “Losing weight is hard, but gaining it back is effortless.”
