First Christian Church
First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word the Holy Bible, verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together, “That we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine” Romans 1:12.
Pastor’s Message
In Romans 5:20, Paul explains that the law was created so that transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded even more. J.B. Phillips, a 20th century Bible translator, put it this way, “Through sin is shown to be wide and deep, thank God His grace is wider and deeper still.” The law did not originate sin, but it revealed sin as an offense against God.
In Romans 6:1, Paul prompts a question from an observer, “If this is the case, should we continue in our sin that grace may abound much more?” Paul responds in Romans 6:2 with a resounding “Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?”
Why would someone want to continue in something if they have been freed from that which has held them hostage? Why would they embrace it again?
Paul answers in four ways, “you cannot, because you are united to Christ. You need not, because sin’s dominion has been broken by grace. You must not, because it would bring sin in again as your master. You better not, for it would end in disaster.”
