LW Men’s Golf League

Six golfers of the Leisure World Men’s Golf League challenged the 4,000-yard, par 62 David L. Baker Executive Golf Course in Fountain Valley on July 18. The weather was dry and overcast with no wind and quickly became sunny and warm mid-morning with a warming breeze.

This round five of the six players shot at or below net par, and there were four birdies— one each by Dave LaCascia, Chris Lankford, Fujio Norihiro, and Sam Choi.

Norihiro had fewest putts, Choi was closest to the pin on the 110-yard par 3 third hole, and Clay Fischer was closest on the 130-yard par 3 12th hole.

Winners (net score: gross minus handicap): Norihiro, 11 under 51, first place; Choi, 6 under 56, second; Stivers, 5 under 57, third; Fischer, 3 under 59, fourth; Lankford, 2 under 60, fifth; LaCascia, sixth.

At the 6,000-yard, par 71 Willowick Golf Course in Santa Ana on July 21, 10 intrepid league members were met with gloomy and misty weather. It rained a few times during the round. The conditions of mist and overcast did not change until nearly the last hole. Driving on the course was like driving through a cloud.

With the course length and damp playing conditions, it was surprising that six of the 10 golfers shot net at or below par. There were two birdies by Jim Goltra and Chris Lankford.

Closest to the pin on the 140yard par 3 fourth hole was Sam Choi, and on the 1,350-yard par 3 12th hole it was Clay Fischer. Choi had fewest putts in the A flight, and Tom Ross and Dom Bautista tied for fewest in the B.

A flight winners: Sam Choi and Lankford, first place; Gary Stivers and Fischer, second; Dave LaCascia, third; Jae Choi and Jim Goltra, fourth.

B flight winners: Bruno Santillo, first place; Tom Ross, second; Bautista, third.

The Monday and Friday golf leagues play at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. Advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.

There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801- 674-5975.
