AMATEUR RADIO CLUB

The LW Amateur Radio Club participated in the nationwide amateur radio Field Day event in coordination with the local Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (R.A.C.E.S.). The event was a success with a good turnout of interested LW residents along with many of the local radio club and R.A.C.E.S. members. R.A.C.E.S. is a FEMA-sponsored public service by trained and dedicated amateur radio operators that provides communications to government agencies in times of extraordinary need. Field Day is an annual amateur radio event encouraging emergency communications preparedness among amateur radio operators. In the U.S., it is typically the largest single emergency preparedness exercise in the country, with over 30,000 operators participating each year. Field Day is always the fourth full weekend of June. The club meets on the first Wednesday of the month in Clubhouse 3, Room 9, at 10 a.m. For more information, call 562-431-6586, ext. 2409.
