After parade, club looks ahead to potluck on Aug. 4
ROLLIN' THUNDER GOLF CART CLUB
The Rollin’ Thunder Golf Cart Club continues to celebrate the summer after its successful Fourth of July Golf Cart Parade, where over 60 golf carts, and one tricycle, rolled through Leisure World to celebrate the holiday.
The parade ended with a contest for the two best decorated carts.
“The success of both the parade and contest goes to all the volunteers who were involved,” said Bonnie Freund. “Without volunteers working in the background, this event wouldn’t have been the success that it was. We are hoping next year’s will be even better.”
On Aug. 4, the Rollin’ Thunder Club will host a potluck picnic at Clubhouse 1 picnic area from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Tacos will be served as the main course and members are asked to bring side dishes. Tickets will cost $10 for members, $15 for guests.

The Rollin' Thunder Golf Cart club celebrated the Fourth of July with a parade of over 60 golf carts driving through the Leisure World community, including a tricycle pulling a carriage with an Uncle Sam princess inside the carriage. After the parade ended, a members-only contest for the best looking cart was judged by event spectators. The winning cart was owned by Vern and Sue Johnson (top), who won a free whale watching tour. The club surprised participants and viewers by also awarding a second place prize to Mike Finney (bottom), who received a harbor cruise tour for his festive golf cart. "With all the different decorating styles driving through the LW community, it was a remarkable sight to see," said club member Bonnie Freund.
