Volunteers serve 350 vehicles at shredding event
GOLDEN AGE FOUNDATION
The Golden Age Foundation (GAF) held its quarterly shredding service on July 10, in the Clubhouse 2 parking lot, with 12 volunteers serving 350 vehicles in two hours..
The event went as smoothly it could go, but there are few issues the GAF wants to address before the next event. Residents should not put newspapers, magazines, file folders or junk mailers with the items they plan to shred. Volunteers have to dig those items out and throw them away. Residents are also reminded to not tie bags closed so volunteers can check the items inside are approved shredding material.
This service is only for residents’ personal and sensitive documents, not for business documents.
Following these rules will help the service run more effi ciently.
Dave Forney directed the traffic and the rest of the volunteers received bags from residents’ vehicles to place them in the shredding bin. The 12 volunteers worked together to handle hundreds of vehicles and hundreds of bags. They worked hard to keep the vehicles moving through the line quickly. Truck driver Joel Benitos reported that the group had collected 48 barrels of documents to be shredded.
The GAF thanks volunteers Carl Kennedy, Harry Varnas, Roberta Johnson, Sophie Jin, Cheryl Falconer, Fara McCartney, Ren Villanueva, Geneva Popepan, Tonette Kardmas Dave Forney, Lisa Brass and Anna Derby for their service.
The GAF, which is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, collected $1,000 in donations during the shredding service, which will be used to buy boxes for the battery recycling event that was held July 15.
The next shredding event will be held on Nov. 11. For more information, go to www. GoldenAgeFdn.org. —Anna Derby
