First 10-ball tournament was June 28

LW POOL CLUB

The LW Pool Club held its first 10-ball tournament June 28, with 12 two-person teams playing seven games against a different opponent. A lot of professional pool players play 10-ball, because it’s more difficult than nine ball. Like nine ball, players shoot the lowest ball on the table. Unlike nine ball, the pocket has to be called on every shot. Players who make the 10 ball on the break don’t win the game. The ten ball spots up, and shots continue.

There were 12 two-person teams playing seven games against a different opponent. After three rounds, Frank Sablan and Dave Silva were the only team with three wins and no losses. In their second game, Dave Silva broke and made the 10 ball, but the 10 spotted up.

In round four, Frank and Dave lost to Ren Villanueva and Connie Terry. There was a three-way tie for first with Barrie Brideau and Susan Dodson, and Brian Burkle and Dave McKinder tied for the lead. Those three teams all won their next three games to end up at six wins and one loss.

There was a lag to see what team would get a bye and play the winner for first place.

Barrie Brideau missed a bank on the ten ball, and Frank Sablan made the 10 ball. In the final game, Dave Silva made a table length shot on the eight ball, leaving Frank Sablan a straight in shot on the 10, which he made.

The next pool tournament will be Monday, July 14, at 6 p.m. It will be a partners straight pool tournament with each team having to make fifteen balls to win a game.
