Contractor estimates intersection upgrade will be complete by end of this month
INTERSECTION UPDATE

Construction is ongoing at the intersection of St. Andrews Drive and Golden Rain Road, where crews are hard at work to upgrade the intersection to enhance driver and pedestrian safety.
The project is expected to be complete by the end of July.
Initially expected to be completed by the end of April, the project was delayed due to a disintegrated, rusted metal conduit, which necessitated change orders. The purpose of the conduit is to protect the underground electrical wiring that will power the traffic lights, signage and other electrical components of the intersection. When crews first uncovered the aged conduit, it was clear that it was unserviceable and needed to be replaced.
That conduit replacement was recently completed and crews are now working on pulling wires into the new conduit and repairing asphalt that was removed to initially access the site.
Crews will soon begin installing signage at the intersection, including the traffic heads that will house the red, yellow and green lights that direct traffic. The new intersection will have a four-way pedestrian phase, which will stop traffic all four directions for pedestrians at all four corners to cross in any direction. It will also feature protected left turn lanes for east- and westbound Golden Rain Road.
Crews will soon install the pedestrian buttons at the ramps leading to the street.
The GRF Board approved the project in July 2024 in keeping with the findings of a traffic study to improve safety features at the intersection.
Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution around the intersection.
Work vehicles and construction crews may cause intermittent disruptions to traffic flows in the coming weeks.
The old conduit under the fl ood channel-meant to hold the wires for the intersection-was disintegrated, necessitating a change order for the intersection project.
