Hundreds attend Art League’s ‘Art in Bloom’ exhibition
Hundreds of exuberant art lovers gathered in the Clubhouse 3 Lobby on June 21 to enjoy the “Art in Bloom” fine art exhibition sponsored by the Leisure World Art League and Gasper Monteer Realty Group. The show featured 123 art pieces including painting, drawing, ceramic, glass, sculpture, jewelry, fabric and photography that wowed the steady flow of patrons.
“We are so pleased to see so many artists and their friends come together to enjoy such a diverse collection of art expression,” Art League President Susie Ralston said. “I just loved hearing the expressions of awe and joy as attendees took in all that was on display.”
The afternoon and early evening were abuzz with the sound of music and excited conversation as people were introduced to local artists and their works of art.
The juried event produced a variety of winning art pieces. Gaeyln Lakin won best of show for a fabric sculpture titled “Stop Labeling Me.” Second place was won by Ramayana “RB” Baba with a ceramic sculpture titled “In the Beginning.” Barbara Simundza took home third place with a drawing titled “Cowrie Shell.”
Honorable mention awards were given to Richard Dean, Thuy Do, Jim Greer, Brenda Hemry, Greg Meyers, Judy Sherratt, Barbara Simundza and Terese Smith. A judge’s choice awardwas presented to Daniel Prosek.
Artists and art lovers who want to join the Art League can attend the club’s Tuesday, July 8, meeting at 6 p.m. in Clubhouse 4. July’s meeting will celebrate the success of the event with remarks from exhibition judge and visual artist Katie Stubblefi eld. The club will also review its year-to-date events, and award special recognition to members that have enriched the League and the community.
