Guys and Gals Golf Tournament

Awarm morning greeted the players of the Guys and Gals Tournament on June 18. Thirty teams of one man and one woman, with varying golfing abilities, teed off starting at 7:30 a.m. at the 1,680yard par 54 Turtle Lake Golf Course. Each team competed for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot radius rewarded), and two closest to the pin challenges.

The sun was out at the initial tee time and there was a delightful, cooling breeze. Conditions were ripe for good scoring with the great playing conditions. Twenty-five of the 30 teams scored net at or below par. There were seven circle hole winners and 47 birdies recorded.

Closest to the pin for the men was Bob Barnum on No. 8 and John Rudosky on No. 17, and for the women it was Jane Song and Susie Kim. Low net score for the round was Pat Paternoster and Sue Sloan at 9 under 45, followed by Ron Steele and Cece Fectman at 7 under 47, and two teams tied for third lowest at 6 under 48. Steele and Fectman, and Bill Lyons and Yasmin Merali tied for low gross at 3 under 51. Tournament statistics: Overall average gross score for all 30 teams was 59.26 strokes or slightly over five strokes above par. Average net scores for all teams was 51.6 strokes or just over two strokes under par. Gross scores were nearly two strokes lower than last month’s tournament and net scores were similar.

Aflightwinners(handicaps of 0-5): Steele and Fectman, first place; Lyons and Merali, second; Mike Mayfield and Nancy Tye, third; Fujio Norihiro and Keiko Sekino, fourth; Won and Jane Song, fifth.

B flight winners(handicaps of 6-8): Paternoster and Sloan, first place; Rudosky and Pam Krug, second; John Kolthoff and Janell Hiebelt, Hyon Shin and Sang An, Rod Osgood and Laura Garcia, third.

C flight winners (handicaps of 9-18): Mark Tal and Vivian Ceballos, first place; Marv Jones and Marilyn Hewitt, second; Dave LaCascia and Judi Ornoff, Ryan and Kay Hong, third; Bill Zurn and Neva Senske, fourth.

The next Guys and Gals Tournaments will be on July 16 and July 30, then every third and fifth Wednesday if there is one. The men’s tournament is played every second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Arrive 10-15 minutes prior to scheduled tee time and be ready to play.
