LW Men’s Golf League

Seven golfers of the Leisure World Men’s Golf League challenged the 5,600-yard par 70 River View Golf Course in Santa Ana on June 6. The weather was overcast and stayed that way throughout the round. The course was dry with no wind and as usual, the tees, fairways and greens were in excellent shape. Three of the seven golfers shot net at or below par.

There was one birdie by Clay Fischer. Sam Choi was closest to the pin on the 140-yard par 3 second hole and Fischer was closest on the 110-yard par 3 ninth hole. Choi and Dom Bautista had fewest putts.

A flight winners (net score: gross minus handicap): Sam Choi and Fischer, 5 under 66, first place; Dave LaCascia, 1 under 69, second; Stivers, third; Fujio Norihiro, fourth.

B flight winners: Bob Munn, 1 over 71, first place; Dom Bautista, 2 over 72, second.

Twelve golfers competed at the 5,800-yard par 71 Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach on June 9. Late in the round the usual sea breeze kicked in causing a significant head-on wind for three of the last five holes. With good playing conditions and fair weather, there were several low scores, and six of the 12 players shot at or below net par.

There were two birdies—one each by Dave LaCascia and Sam Choi. LaCascia was closest to the pin on the 140-yard par 3 seventh hole and Kyle Van was closest on the 140-yard—dead into the wind —par 3 15th hole. Gary Stivers and Dom Bautista had fewest putts.

A flight winners: LaCascia, 5 under 66, first place; Stivers, 4 under 67, second; Van, 3 under 68, third; Clay Fischer, 1 under 70, fourth; Larry Hillhouse, even par 71, fifth; Choi and Fujio Norihiro, sixth.

B flight winners: Tom Ross, even par 71, first place; Bob Munn and Mike Jimenez, second; Bill Zurn and Scott Slade, third.

The Monday and Friday golf leagues play at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. These courses are always quite full, so advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.

There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Rewards are given for low net in each flight, birdies, closest to the pin on two par threes, and for the lowest number of putts in each flight. Holes-in-one and eagles are generously rewarded. Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-6745975.
