LW Men’s Golf League

Eight golfers of the Leisure World Men’s Golf League competed at the David L. Baker Executive Golf Course in Fountain Valley on May 23. The weather was warm but overcast throughout the round, with little sunshine. Tees were set well forward to allow for maintenance and reseeding. This shortened the course significantly and scores were expected to be low.

With fairways and greens being in excellent shape, seven of the eight golfers shot net at or well below par. There were three birdies, all by Jim Goltra, who was also closest to the pin on the 140 yard par 3 fourth hole. Gary Stivers was closest to the pin on both the 100 yard par 3 third hole and 130 yard par 3 12th. Sam Choi and Bill McKusky had fewest putts.

Winners: (net score: gross minus handicap) A flight winners: Stivers, 10 under 52, first place; Sam Choi, 6 under 56, second; Fujio Norihiro, 5 under 57, third; Kyle Van, 2 under 60, fourth; Dave LaCascia, fifth.

B flight winners: McKusky, 10 under 52, first place; Bob Munn, 7 under 55, second; Ron Jackson, 4 under 58, third.

The Monday and Friday golf leagues play at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. These courses are always quite full, so advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.

There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Rewards are given for low net in each flight, birdies, closest to the pin on two par threes, and for the lowest number of putts in each flight. Holesin- one and eagles (2 under par) are generously rewarded. Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.
