Assembly of God

Pastor Chuck Franco will begin a new series titled “Living a Real Christian Life” with a sermon titled “Living Righteously” on Sunday, June 1, at LW Assembly of God.

There are traditional assumptions about what living a righteous, Christian life would look like. One would assume that Christians go to church, participate in the ministries of the church, support the church and its endeavors financially, and engage socially with other attendees and members. But what Christ calls a Christian to has more to do with what happens outside the church walls than within them, and even more so what happens in the internal, private life of a true disciple of Christ than what is played out in public. The first week studies Romans 6:11-12, and the very direct message given to Christians: Consider yourselves dead to sin.

Assembly of God will host the Hymn Sing Sunday, June 1, at 6 p.m. in the Clubhouse 3 Lobby. All LWers are invited as Pastor Dan Wilderman leads the musical portion and Pastor Franco brings a devotional thought before the fellowship.

The Wednesday Bible study is currently in a study of Psalms, by Lisa Harper titled, “The Lyrics of Life.” The book of Psalms is often assumed to be a book of lovely poetry, until encountering the psalms of lament, confession, thanksgiving, psalms pointing to the Messiah, victorious psalms of ascent, and even angry, imprecatory psalms, asking for divine retribution and vindication on others. This study expands the understanding of the purpose of each psalm and gives context for the personal relevance of these scriptures.

Leisure World Assembly of God meets on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 2. The Wednesday Bible study meets at 10 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 2.
